Triumph Splashes at CFX, MARCH 17th

We've had the pleasure of spending the last few months with Team Triumph, a Nashua BJJ-based team that includes the likes of Chuck O'Neil, John Ortolani, Rick Hawn, Jimmy Quinlan, and many other local growlers.

Besides the other streams of talent, one fighter caught our eye: Cody Anderson, who began training at Triumph at age 14, is definitely a secret weapon...but perhaps, not so secret anymore.

The young fighter has just began his shot at local amateurs, and is already 3-0. He finished his last fight with 40 or so bombs to the head of his opponent, while classfully utilizing the rape choke. He was then quickly added to the #4 spot in the January 2012 Amateur Rankings.

What's next for Cody?

He and his teammates, John Ortolani & Peggy Morgan, are headed to CageFX's "Sham Rock Rumble," at the Jungle Plex in Plymouth, MA. Cody will be facing John Rhodes (2-2), and looking to claim his 4th win in the cage. His goal is to add another two wins under his belt, and then take the summer off for some Tough Mudder & motorcycle riding.

Will he prevail? Be there to watch him try to smash his next victim! For tickets contact Cody himself, or his manager John at Triumph BJJ.

Recap the Last Few Weeks

Much has been going on in the RegisteredFighter.com cave and we just wanted to give our fans an update.

First off, thanks to everyone for reaching out with press releases, business opportunities, and news for our website. You all are a special part of the New England and entire world MMA circle.

Speaking of "world," man is Nick Newell making headlines everywhere! From his big win at XFC, to his spot in Maxim Magazine, he's catching eyes of big wigs all around the nation. He and the Fighting Arts Academy also just hosted a successful grappling tournament (King Of The Mat Grappling Championship) yesterday with a large turnout. Pictures of the tournament will be available at RichO's Photography's facebook page shortly (also stay tuned for a new badass "RichO blog" we've been working on with him).

What else? Well, at the end of January we did commentary for none other than the Cage Titans fighting promotion, specifically the event "Invasion." Click here to visit the Cage Titans facebook page. Invasion was a great time, and we'll continue to leak out coverage of the show as the days go on! Congrats, as well, to Fight Night I in Lewiston, Maine on February 11, 2012. They packed their house with over 3,000 people! Everyone must also check out the Premier FC facebook page regarding their "challenge" tournament...you'll want to get involved.

Mid-February we were reached out to by our good friend Matthew Dumond, of Cage Insider Productions. Matt and the crew have been working hard on a film called "Portico" which is currently in post production. Trailer and movie information can be found here. Here are cool details about the film:

The film, a suspenseful, gritty mob drama set mainly in Lawrence, MA and Boston, is currently in post production. In the vein of 'State of Grace' and 'The Godfather', 'Portico' is a very character driven story that tests the viewer, and keeps the entertainment high.

'Portico' features a huge amount of New England area talent, both in front of, and behind the camera. The cast includes Owen Burke ('The Town'), Matthew C Dumond ('Cage Insider', 'Shutter Island'), Shawn Doherty ('Cage Insider', 'Shutter Island'), Dennis McLaughlin ('The Town'), David Mejia ('Cage Insider'), John 'Doomsday' Howard (veteran UFC Fighter), Cindy Stumpo (HGTV's 'Tough as Nails'), Dicky Eklund (Boxing Legend), Matthew Flynn ('The Box'), Michael Rebholz (HGTV's 'Tough as Nails'), Steve 'The Sandman' Dunn (MMA Fighter), Lou Fuoco ('Conned'), Bobby Kenney ('Serena and the Ratts'), Jason Kelly ('Mystic River'), Ciaran Crawford ('The Sopranos', 'Brotherhood'), Jaysaun (Hip Hop Artist), Darlyne Franklin (New England Theater Producer, 'Wicked Real Housewives'), and Boston pizza legend Frank Santarpio (Santarpio's Pizza).

Sounds like a good time! Who wants to see the movie when it's out?

We can't give a re-cap without honoring New England's own Joey Proctor. Joey is a talented local fighter who has made the cast of "The Ultimate Fighter 15," which debuts on March 9th on FX.

It's every fighter's dream to make the show, and someday fight in the UFC. Congrats on accomplishing the first part of the dream, Joey!

The past month has been crammed with shows, grappling tournaments, and hard sparring and training in every gym, in every corner and crevice.

The Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Network put on a great tournament this past weekend at Mass BJJ in Acton, MA. Their next tournament is on March 17th, details on the flyer below:

The tournament is run by CFX's Gary Forman (click here for info on the next CFX event), and Team Triumph (Triumph BJJ)'s John Fain. Gary is well-known in the area for putting on great shows, and John is the lead instructor at Triumph MMA in Nashua, NH.

We have lots to look forward to as the snow begins to melt into spring, and everyone around is hard at work on their next fights, shows, competitions, and the daily grind that comes with them!

Keep in touch. We'll keep you informed.

Cage Titans Media Day – Saturday, January 14, 2012

Back by popular demand: Cage Titans (Invasion) Media Day, one of the most fun events leading up to a local MMA show!

Last time our crew, MMA fans, and Cage Titan's fighters got together to train hard, take pictures, do interviews, and have some fun. The "Media Day" gathering takes place before each Cage Titans event, as a chance for local media & fans to get to know each fighter on the upcoming card.

At the previous Media Day, fighters took advantage of the opportunity to roll around with each other, hit mits, and trade some pointers. Afterwards they had some fun doing a Registered Fighter dance off. Well, we have another challenge for the fighters:

Cage Titans "Media Day" RegisteredFighter.com Presents:

Rap Battle

Come prepared to rap a few bars about your opponent!

The rap battles will be put to a beat and used in an upcoming Media Day review video.

So..who will bring the illest rhymes?

See you there!

Registered Fighter Looks for 5 Talented Fighters

Red/Black Example

We're looking for 5 talented fighters that are willing to blog about their daily life, struggles, accomplishments, training, diet, or really whatever the heck they want to blog about!

Our goal as a MMA management group, is to take these fighters and bring their on and offline recognition to the heights that their skill has already reached. The selected fighters will be encouraged (but not required) to write each day, or a few times a week, a little about what they are going through inside and outside the gym. Write about whatever you want. Do you play a different sport? Do you have a cool hobby? Write about that. Express yourself through poems, songs, music...or stick to talking about who you gave a black eye to at the gym!

What you will get for participating:

• Full website at yourname.registeredfighter.com
Complete access to post content whenever you want, without any moderation approval.
• A blog-writing platform that is easier than sending an e-mail.
• A place to list sponsors, links, and friends.

• If you keep-up with the site for a long period of time, we will purchase "yourname.com" for you and point it to the site.

Who we are looking for:

• Fighters with a substantial resume (decent record, wins, highlights, unique style).
• Fighters who have a creative lifestyle outside the gym (hobby, etc.)
• Fighters who are willing to post content on a regular basis (please write a blog-entry at least 3 times a week,  7 is even better!).
• Fighters committed to the project.

Premier FC 7 “Heaven”

Premier FC7 at UMass Amherst was an exemplary display of a model organization's recipe for an, overall, outstanding night. Though the title of this article suggests some mind-blowing non-stop extacy with golden paved roads, its aim is more at the great workers who made PFC an absolute pleasure to cover as a media source, and attend as a fan.

The Registered Fighter crew left from Merrimack Valley, MA, to embark on the two-hour trek to UMass. As it is a trek that is familiar to us, time did not pass slow, and before you know it we had arrived. My RF LIVE Coverage co-host Eddie and I have an insider or two at UMass, so we got a "tip" to park in a great spot a short walk from the event's open doors. Since a two hour trip does not fair well with the male species, we stopped by the UMass cafeteria for some nicely made sandwich wraps, then quickly hustled to the Mullins Center.

Finding where the media was to enter was like finding a "speak easy," but the yellow-shirted man guarding one of the entrances repeated the directions twice, which finally directed us to an arrow taped on the wall. James Bond wouldn't be impressed by us, but we were relieved. This was our first interaction with the Mullins Center staff, who were more than accommodating. Fans entered through the front gates, and seemed more than eager to see what the night had in-store. Many of the attendees were there to see live MMA fights for their first time!

Me and my co-host then entered from behind the stage, and made our way to find the media tables cage-side. By far, PFC hooked us up with the best media table of any event we've attended prior. To run our live feed, we demand power like a guerrilla, (not really, but we need to keep the computer(s) juiced). Again the Mullins Center staff came to our rescue, quickly finding a beast of an extension cord. They then un-tangled it, taped it down, and ran it all the way behind stage for us, great people! And then we went live...

Fans continued to come in steadily for over an hour. As the lights dimmed, and the man center-stage began to announce, we readied our fans. Man the night had some action! Leon Campbell and Nicholas Pallini started the night off right, and that quickly ended with a Leon RNC. All the ammy fights had some spice, and some argue they out-shined a few of the pro bouts! Kevin Ortiz vs. Remington Chang was a great show, showcasing Ortiz' muay thai skill. The pro fights were great, and were overflowing with talent. Though fighters like Ricardo Funch & Abner Lloveras grinded out a win, their opponents were no mis-match, and showed they came to handle their aggressor.

The night topped off with none other than UFC vet. and future prospect Dan Lauzon, who turned Anthony Kaponis blue at 1:42 (KO Round 1).

Looking around, as we did many times during our live feed, we saw nothing but smiling faces and shouting fighter-specific groupies. Dan Lauzon's friends went wild, and Ryan Quinn's fans blew our eardrums! Speaking of eardrums, Dj Caucajion was phenomenal all night, spinning with ease and keeping me and my co-host moving to the beat. As our 150+ live viewers and 600+ residual viewers noticed, we weren't aware of such beats and their effect on our main microphone, but we have a few people who will scream over the internet at us next time, so we can switch to the on-hand noise-filter mic.

PFC7 showed to us, that not only can fans rely on Premier FC to give them a good night, they can rely on their fighters to put on the perfect show. One thing is for sure, next year's RF Awards will be the hardest to decipher, as PFC just cemented itself to the running of top organizations in New England.
